The Minority Mentoring Matters (3M) Program started in 2015, as a Masters-level project. I solicited participants through the local AFGE union president and volunteered my effort for the first six-week learning opportunity at DLA Distribution. The project used as a platform that there were three elements that were missing in preparing, building, promoting government employees and community minorities. I believe communication, recognition and training were noted as the necessary components to better support minorities.
Wings of Hope Coaching wants to partner with community organizations in and around the Harrisburg area to introduce the updated 8-week 3M Program and its potential for positive impacts for our minority communities. The program is separated into two parts. The first part focuses on the minority participants and how they observe the world. The second part brings the program together by providing hands-on engagement with the participants on key components that will better prepare each of them for career success.
This training will be the impetus for enabling the guarded walls of our minds to relax, as we begin to experience the delicate balance that brings commitment to ourselves first and then to our organizations. The goal is to teach our community youth and young adults that they do not need to aspire to be like someone else while forgetting their own strengths and desires.
